Ruggedized Laptop
The Ruggedized Laptop provides the operator the ability to operate the system in different work conditions such as sitting at a stationary post, lying or kneeling in the field. The laptop's flat-panel display is readable under various lighting conditions (illuminated room, sunlight and full darkness) has 0 to 100% continuous brightness control, without any visible flicker, and is available as night vision goggle (NVG) compatible. It can be mounted on a mobile platform (ground vehicles, navy surface and sub-surface vessels and airborne, fixed and rotary wing) or on a fixed base for facility monitoring and is a highly reliable man-portable unit that operates in harsh field environmental conditions, working day or night under any adverse weather conditions.
The mechanical design of these laptops incorporates a variation of the Argon "Piggy-Back" concept allowing for the complete and rapid separation of the flat-panel display from the keyboard and computer. This unique approach brings an application flexibility not seen before in the industry.
When used in the traditional "Laptop" configuration the unit is supplied with an adjustable shoulder strap, making it a very man-portable unit. Other carrying options are also available.
When it is desirable to use the Ruggedized Laptop Computer as other than a "Laptop" (i.e., in the separable mode), "Snap & Latch" mounting plates, designed for easy installation to platform bulkheads and horizontal work surfaces, are available.
The bulkhead "Snap & Latch" mounting plate, designed to secure the flat-panel display provides an interface connector for the cabling that connects to the horizontal work surface mounting plate. The horizontal work surface "Snap & Latch" mounting plate secures the keyboard and computer and provides an interface connector for the cable connecting to the flat-panel display mounting plate. Both are easily installed. The cabling between the mounting plates can be installed behind the bulkhead or left exposed at the option of the user.
Transitioning between the mounted (i.e., the separable mode) and the Laptop configuration is easily accomplished by removing the keyboard and computer and display units from their respective "Snap & Latch" mounting plates and joining the units together utilizing the quick connect and disconnect mechanism. This capability offers the end user numerous application possibilities previously not available.
